Biography
WHEN Mark Williams won the 1996 Regal Welsh Open on home turf, TV pundit Willie Thorne said live on air that he thought the talented Welshman would be a one-hit wonder. Since then, Thorne has been forced to eat his words time and again as Williams has established himself as the top name in snooker.

The 2002/03 season pushed the man who began playing the game in the small Welsh mining town of Cwm, near Ebbw Vale, into the same league as legends Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis.

Beginning the season ranked No.2 in the world, Williams beat stablemate Ken Doherty 10-9 to land the UK Championship in York, won the last B&H Masters title at Wembley by defeating Hendry, then picked up a second world crown when again beating Doherty 18-16 in the final, so emulating the achievements of Hendry and Davis by taking the three major titles in the same season and confirming his status as an all-time great.

Mark also had the pleasure of returning to the No.1 spot, becoming only the second player after Ray Reardon, to regain his place at the top of the world rankings.

It was another chapter in a remarkable career which started with the young Williams torn between two sports – snooker and boxing. But by the age of 17 had settled on playing snooker as a professional.

His rise up the world rankings was nothing short of meteoric. In just four seasons, he climbed from 119th to 4th, and in 1998 Williams and Stephen Hendry contested an extraordinary final in the B&H Masters. Having trailed 9-6, Williams clawed back to win the title 10-9 on a re-spotted black.

The following season he established himself at No.3, after becoming one of the few players to win three ranking tournaments in one season with success in the Irish Open, Regal Welsh Open and the Thailand Masters.

The 98/99 season finished with him reaching the Embassy World Championship final, losing to Hendry. As consolation for that loss, Mark bought himself a Ferrari 355!

The following season, he reached No.1 in the rankings after wins in the UK Championship and Thailand Masters, and by going one better at The Crucible where he defeated compatriot Matthew Stevens in the final.

Mark stills plays in the same club, The Emporium, Bargoed, where he first picked up a cue. He regards himself as part of the furniture there, and is never bothered by anyone.

Away from the table, Mark loves to play golf, and is something of a speed freak, having owned the likes of a Yamaha R6, a BMW touring bike, an Escort Cosworth, a BMW M3, and a Subaru P1 – replaced by a Noble supercar!

I'm sort of happy with Quinten 'Hit and Hope' Hann. Unreliable I know, but definitely a confidence player who is probably capable of beating the best as long as they aren't on top form. But he won't.

I bet that fat turd Stephen Lee would be well chuffed that he's got 'donuts'.

Crabbers, can you not read?... It quite clearly states Robert Milkins is 25th, not 21st :jester:

This is him after hearing the news he'd been paired up with you!...
