Personally, I believe when Bobby was the England manager the press destroyed his reputation, despite as history shows he was a great manager.

At the moment he has in premiership terms an average squad therefore 4/5th is not a bad position in the league.

Whether the real issues are that:

Bobby just does have the cutting edge to get the higher class players and/or
The money is not there and/or
For most footballers the question is "where's the f*** is Newcastle" followed by "I am not playing there its colder than Siberia".

Its probably all 3 therefore the fans and Shepard has to acknowledge that 4/5th place is their goal and chamionship target.
