CHEMICAL castration of rapists and child sex offenders is to begin in France.

The government has given the green light to begin trials of a treatment to neuter the sex drives of persistent predators.

Tests are to be carried out on 48 male volunteers - all former offenders now released from prison.

The move follows a massive rise in sex offences in France. In 1990 five percent of prison inmates were sex offenders. Now the figure is 22 per cent, with three quarters of all sex attacks being on children. Government scientist Serge Stoleru said: "Two medicines will be tested to reduce the hormone which controls male sexual desire, effectively making it impossible for him to become sexually aroused.



"We believe we can reduce repeat sexual offending to almost zero in any man who takes the treatment."

They already use this in the states but it is done on a voluntary basis. It is also not perminant. The chemicals simply suppress the glands that produce testosterone (sp?). When they stop administering the drugs they are 'normal' again.

It's not like speeding or burglary. They do it because they are ill. Like I said, they have offered this chemical castration in the states before and inmates were queuing up for the treatment. They know what they are doing is very wrong but they just can't help themselves from doing it. Do you think a Crack addict smokes crack because they know they can get away with it?

i hope it works. at least it is reversible not like the death penalty. if someone is found not guilty then at least something can be done.

Obviouisly castration usually mean cutting your knackers off. Your knackers is where a the vast majority of your testosterone comes from (although there are ather glands that produce it). The affect is to completely remove you sexual desires. Not only will you not be able to get it up, but will no longer even want sex.

i would rather do that to them. surely they will need mental help to as a lot of it would seem to be in the mind as well as the hormones

Think you're right there on the whole Lammy. I think many serial rapists / child molesters who know that what they're doing is wrong are bloody frightened by themselves and their urges, and they'd welcome the treatment.

In case of problems, they could actually chop your dangly friends off, freeze them and put them back on if it's found your not guilty.

To an extent I guess but it is probably the last thing on their mind when they commit these acts.

Someone that commits say a date rape probably has a completely different mindset to a serial child rapist.

Research has shown that antilibidinal drugs are effective only where libido is an important contributor to a person's offending
behaviour. The majority of sex offenders, who act from feelings of rage, power or violence, would not benefit from this form of treatment.
