Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott today pulled a muscle while running with
youngsters at an athletics track.
Mr Prescott told onlookers, "I've pulled a bloody muscle. I feel a right
bloody twit!" - then later limped to his chauffeur-driven Jaguar car.
Aides put an ice-pack on his swollen ankle and shortly after he limped away to
his car.
The MP for Hull East had been visiting Sheepmount athletics stadium in
Carlisle, Cumbria, joined by 10 and 11-year-olds from Inglewood Junior School.
The political heavyweight, a schoolboy boxer, attempted to join the youngsters
in sprinting but had only run a few yards before pulling up and hobbling off the
track.
Mr Prescott told onlookers, "I've pulled a bloody muscle. I thought I was
doing all right.
"I've been in the gym an hour every day.
"I feel a right bloody twit. I thought I was going to beat these beggars!"
Mr Prescott was treated for 15 minutes at the stadium before leaving in his
car.
He was in Carlisle for talks on how to regenerate the city, devastated by
floods in January last year.
A spokesman for the Office of Deputy Prime Minister said: "He pulled a
muscle, a mild strain, he is fine."

'Sheepmount athletics stadium' sounds pretty dodgy to me - although it probably accurately describes a popular leisuretime activity in those parts.
