Why would you not want post counts? It should be an option, you don't HAVE to look at it?!

I was about to say it's interesting to see how long people have been on here.....but Join Date has been added so that quashes that one...

I suspect it can intimidate some new/occasional posters into not getting involved. If that's the case - even only occasionally - then it's better not to have it. Join date on the other hand has some merit as you say.

I think it was a desperate attempt to improve the quality of the forum - if they GENUINELY want to improve the quality of the forum they would introduce a football/sport sub-forum - FACT.

Nah, then it would be the same as every other forum. Would make NSC a much worse place IMO.

I went for fence on the grounds I'm not particularly anti-post counts, but it doesn't bother me that we don't have them either.

Agreed.

If they started doing that, where does the sub-dividing stop? Do you have to divide the BB forum into a seperate bit for each housemate? Do we have a general football forum? One for each division? One for Albion and one for non-Albion? Where would stuff about foreign football or the England team go? Would we have to have a seperate bit for that as well?

No need to change anything IMO. If you look at the title of a thread and it doesn't interest you, don't open it. Problem solved.

Every other forum uses that format these days because it's a proven and successful format that benefits all types of users, and not just the regulars like yourself who use it more as a social club :)

Thats what makes NSC different though, and probably the reason it seems to be the most used Brighton forum. Would really take something away to split it all up.

Oh and in regards to post counts I think it was right they were taken away, people were righting off "newbies" opinions just because they hadn't been around for years.

I'd agree with all of that. People deny that it happens, but I've seen loads of times when a new poster with less than a few hundred posts has a perfectly valid opinion and gets ignored.

So in which part of the new sub-divided NSC would this thread go? I like the fact that NSC keeps it all together. We are not one of the biggest football forums in the world for nothing.

Spot on as usual Mr V. If Wardy thinks this is one of the biggest football boards in the world then he can't have visited too many! Sheesh even Rushden and Diamond have a bigger membeship than us :) Christal Mighty FC have about three or four times as many members as we do, and the various forums on cpfc.org are a hell of a lot more active than ours.

As for post counts, probably best left off as it just shows some of the bigger posters as bods with no life, who feel the need to live out their every breath on here ;)

I recall reading some stats to that effect in the past. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I would think that NSC was one of the very early message board successes, but it's forums like this that have encouraged others to do the same. I'd be amazed if we were in the Top 50 Football Forums in the world now.

Can't think there are any bigger Brighton ones though. Happy to be proved wrong.

Does it really matter in all honesty?

If people believe that the more posts they have means they are more notable than anyone else, then then quite simply they need to either get a life or, perhaps a job!

I joined in August 08 but have been closely "watching" them for a copule of years. Post count or join date is irrelavant, so long as the posts submitted are good.

Mine was wrong anyway. There was some conniption on the board a few years back, and although most people got their numbers back, I didn't. I also believe the join date started at a point AFTER the original board members had basically created a chat forum by logging in for some time to share views. Let's just say, I was on the board as 'Nice Mister Hilter' long before Jul 2003, I believe it was as much as 4 or 5 years before.

So it doesn't matter to me really.

Hate to break it to you, but we are not even the biggest forum in Brighton, let alone the world.

The scum's board is (as painful as it is to admit) fantastic and they have been using the sub-forum format for years. Five times as populous as our own and even more times as much activity (and not just from scum fans either).

NSC is deluded because the regulars swear by this format, and so they think it is best. But it's because of the geekesque activity from the regulars and this one forum format which accentuates all the drivel on here that deters new users.

Funnily enough, I actually think there's been MORE drivel on here since the post counts were abolished, gives EVERYONE the freedom to be idiotic, not just those with high post-tallies

This has just arrived at the top of my page to provoke adding one more to my invisible post count::wave:

"Hello zego it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, abuse Crystal Palace or just engage in a conversation with everyone else on the Big Board? "
