One of my first games was against Wolves in 1969-ish in the old League Cup. We lost 2-3. They had Alan (I think) Hunt - shortly bound for Liverpool, and I think the great Doog.

I am looking forwrd to seeing one of the best shirts in the football league running out under floodlights. Excellent.

I was there and I beleive it was 5-0 not 5-1. Maybe I'm mistaken but we sent wolves down that day and they were far to shit to score.

First memory for me is that 1-1 at the Goldstone in 89, a glorious sunny day, we had US keeper Tony Meola in goal. The very next game was our 1-0 victory at Vicarage Road when Meola took the decision to jump ship and join Watford!

lets just hope kuipers does not have to be forced to pull off another of those absolute wonder double saves like he did last time!

But which was the best game?

3-0 on a Bank Holiday when we absolutely hammered them was pretty good, but the result did not really mean anything.
4-1 at the Withdean was a bit special as well.

The 2-3 defeat in the League Cup before a 32,000+ crowd and the first time we had ever played Wolves after knocking out Birmingham and Pompey out when we were in the Old Division Three was a sensational match.

I remember that 1969 game vividly. It was my first ever evening game I went straight from school and met my father at the station. It was also the first time that I'd travelled to the ground by train and it was packed.

The ground was an amazing sight. I haven't got Carder/Harris book to hand but I think that there were more than 30,000 there that night. It was a cracking game too, Wolves were obviously superior but we hung in there and nearly gave them a shock. Wasn't Bertie Lutton playing for Wolves that day?
