Looks like total mayhem to me, haven't got a clue what's going on but I think it might get exciting soon. WTF - ONLY 68 laps to go

Very complicated race with points being awarded for various things. You can also gain a lap. So you can be equal on points but a lap up.

From what little I understand winning the sprints means f all as long as you can lap the back of the pack?

Is there anyone who really understands it? Maybe someone in Beijing?

Loads of laps, 2 people in each team. Only one person can "race" in each team at a time.

Every 20 laps there is a sprint race

5 points to 1st place
4 for 2nd
3 for 3rd
2 for 4th
1 for 5th

the points build up, and you get points for doing an extra lap and catching up the last person

Yep if you are a lap up that counts for more then the points alone.

Well I know I haven't got a clue and I'm almost certainly wrong but it seems to me that we have f***ed up big time so far

Abort, retry, fail
Pretty impressive stuff. Various things you have to be aware of or do:

1) Avoid hitting another bike in the melee
2) Communicate with your team mate
3) Keep abreast of who is a lap ahead/behind etc.
4) Pace yourselves for the final sprint
5) Keep picking up points
6) There isn't a 6, is there?

Impressively, the Madison is derived from SIX DAY racing. When the cyclists used to cycle continuously for erm...they should bring that back.
