The whale, which could now be a health hazard, was put under guard until a post-mortem today.

Is a post-mortem really needed?

Bloke I used to know was a Customs officer in Edinburgh. One of his titles was HM Receiver of Wrecks. He told me that whenever a dead whale washed up, he had to go down and claim it on behalf of Her Majesty. Oddly enough, Maj never showed any interest in turning up to do whatever it was she wanted the whale for, and after a few days it would start to get decidedly whiffy. At which point they would blow it up with dynamite!

I think we know why it died is his point. It beached itself. There are other things to learn of course. What it had for breakfast etc

My favourite bit was the spelling mistake in the headline. Quality journalism.
