Heard on the radio today that the Wigan Chairman so pissed-off
with what he's paying for Police for such small crowds at home games that he had no Police there today.
You can get away with it by having a certain amount of stewards
the presenter on Five Live was told.
Wigan have been paying £19,000 for a 100 Police while Bolton with double the crowds are only paying 9,000.
Have a mate whom was married to a Policewomen who was at Premier football match's know how much the law are getting paid for sitting in a office during the game.
Seven or eight years ago it was £20 a hour at Southampton.

Apparently other clubs do the same with certain games. Villa did the same in the League cup (sorry traditionalist) against QPR it went ok inside during the game, but it kicked off big style outside and a steward died as they were used to try and keep the burberries apart. Having no old bill may save money but what if real trouble starts?
Anyway doubt if Watford had many travelling and there is plenty of segregation as the JJB is hardly struggling with large crowds!

Eh? How can the same police force (Greater Manchester) be charging different clubs different prices for the same number of coppers?

Read somewhere that the Old Bill covering Wigan got a new boss so maybe he is trying to make his mark and probably thinks that the wigan chairman can afford it.Wrong i know but wonder how much the differential is over the whole of the League.
Bet the Met charges each club differently as well!

There was a big feature on this on Five Live earlier in the week, and I'm sure they said that Greater Manchester police do Bolton (and Blackburn, Oldham etc) games whereby Lancashire police do Wigan games.

Apparently this dispute has been going on for two (or three, depending on who you believe) years.

Nice bit of "cut and paste" there ;)

What the chairman actually said was that he thought it was outrageous that he had to pay such a large police bill recently (where the £19,000 figure comes from) when Wigan played a PARTICULAR team.....................can you guess the team?!!

Championship side, below us in the division...................

When Bellotti was Chief Executive at the Albion, he was also Chairman of the Sussex Police Authority.

The Club regularly failed to pay the policing bill and things got to the point where Sussex Police were on the point of refusing to turn up at games - which, given the public order issues at the time, could have forced the Club into having to cancel them.

Eventually a compromise was reached and it was agreed that a police officer would collect the policing fees in cash, at half-time, direct from the turnstiles.

For some reason, the admin staff at the Police Authority had the distinct impression that Bellotti was a bit of a wanker.
