It's Gas as in Gasoline, and the subway stank of it this morning.
I bet they never explain where it came from either. Summer 05 lower Manhattan smelled of Maple Syrup for a day; couldn't explain that on either.

There is always something going on south of the border. Few ever amount to much.
Currently, in addition to the smell in NY, they have:
1) something going on in Miami after a suspicious device tested positive for C4 plastic explosive.
2) downtown Austin (TX) closed down after 60 birds died overnight.
3) a chemical leak in another town in Texas spewing a fair amount of smoke over the area.
Up here in Canada, a major incident has been declared after a rumour that a branch of Tim Hortons may be close to running out of coffee.
Currently, in addition to the smell in NY, they have:
