Investing in a new telly when I get home. I got that Apple TV for Christmas but don't have an HD TV which you need for the thing to work. I bought my present custard especially for the World Cup in 06, but have decided to enter the 21st century & go HD.
The thing is, having looked on Curry's web site, they come with so many whistles & bells these days, I'm lost. Should I get LED, Plasma...what's the difference?
What's a good feature that you really like & think I should be looking at?

So, I was thinking of around 500 quid, maybe a tad more.

Any recommendations?

For me the important thing was a 100hrz refresh rate, NOT the standard 50hrz. Miles better for HD performance. Well worth that bit of extra money.

Richer Sounds - The UK's Hi-Fi, Home Cinema & Flat Panel TV Specialists! are pretty good, bought one there recently.

Samsung Smart TVs look amazing, had a go on one the other day at a friends house, BBC iPlayer built in, Lovefilms built in, Youtube, Web browser and others. This one also had 3D which I thought weas really quite special.

My advice though would be to read a couple of review magazines, better to spend £10 on a couple of mags and get informed and expert opinion, than spend money on an expensive item and not get the best for it.

LED... look at the Tesco own brand one with the USB slot. Means you can record onto a usb stick without a video/pvr and/or copy files from your pc and watch on the tv without any other technology needed. Fantastically useful function.

I have had a large screen one for 3 years now and still going strong (only one HDMI slot though) and just bought the gf a new small screen one for her birthday.

I bought two LG 47" HD Freview TV's last year with 3 HDMI slots and USB. One for the living room and one for the bedroom. I love them.

However, I'm moving house in two weeks time and there's nowhere to put the bedroom TV. It's virtually new. The TV cost £700 a year ago but is yours for half that if you're interested? I've even still got the box it came in and I can deliver it to you next weekend. I took out the extended five year warranty as well so the TV is covered should there be any issues over the next four years.

I also have a home cinema system that cost me a grand that I don't think is going to fit into the new house. The joys of downsizing!

I have 2 Samsungs and I think they're pretty good. The one in my bedroom is a smart TV, but I don't use the smartness of it - I did play with it a little when I bought it, but don't bother any more. The main 40 incher in the lounge is very nice I reckon.

Your location says Sydney and you can deliver next weekend, do you want the cash up front? ???

If slightly lower budget: LG

If higher: SAMSUNG all the way. GORGEOUS tellyvision times.

Samsung mix and match panels though, so bit of a lottery if you get a a lower grade one.

Panasonic for me, most consistent over the last few years.

Get as big as you can. I wish I had gone for a 42inch now that I have my 37inch.

get 1080p.

get LED.

get 3 HDMI ports.

Get free view HD built in unless you have sky, then it doesn't really matter.

Get LG or Samsung.

Got a 46" Samsung d7000 recently.
Love it, stunnning picture and lots of bells and whistles (most of which we don't use)
The 3D is ok, 2D-3D conversion that is, have not seen any original 3D on it yet.

46" seemed huge when we got it, but now seems normal!
