It puts our current status in context - i.e. in the division we've histrically belonged to - and shows how the arrival of TB and the Amex really is likely to take us to another level on a more sustainable basis.

On that data you certainly couldn't accuse us of being a big club - nor of punching above our weight given the actual and potential supporter base we have.

Historically we are a third tier side - I'm sure I've seen stats somewhere ranking us 44th (?) overall. However, potentially we are an upper second tier side with top tier pretensions.

I stand corrected. Seems like they've included stats for the Football Conference 2001-2002. Apologies, only glanced quickly at it.

Unfortunately it is misleading and a better representation would be if they only did it from the abolition of the maximum wage. Prior to that there were several 'small' teams that competed in the top tier, such as Burnley, who only had seven seasons there in the last 40 years. Similalry with Notts County. As mentioned by another post, it is considerably distorted as it doesn't take into account the level at which games were won! Perhaps there should be a coco cola ranking similar to the Fifa one. Not ideal but at least a start. Anyone prepared to take it on!!!
