How come those damn Yankees can get away with it - New York City, Chicago, Memphis Tennessee, Massachusetts, Tulsa, Phoenix City, San Francisco, etc, etc, ad nauseam...
...but the only songs about British places are either comedy numbers, or sung by beardies with one finger in their ear (eg Fog on the Tyne, Streets of London). Even Scarborough Fair was sung by a couple of Yanks. Is American automatically cool, whereas British is just embarrassing?
So, apart from the never to be forgotten (nor, I sincerely hope, repeated) We Want Falmer. And Waterloo Sunset (which I've just remembered, but is the name of a place in Belgium... (And London Calling doesn't count, if you're there, Attila)
