Hopefully this will not classed as a spiced meat product -----> :braders:

Greetings gadgies and gadgesses. Looks a good messageboard, lots of life. I will try to remember to pop by just before/after our two meetings this season (which we will no doubt lose to last minute goals. Again.)

I am the creator and admin of In The Mad Crowd, a database-driven site dedicated to Hartlepool United, with the emphasis on historical data. It is our centenary season in 2008/09 and I have promised to try to complete all opposition lineups/goalscorers for each of next season's opponents before the season starts. This will help in providing information for articles on the official website and in the programme.

I have almost finished the Brighton page but I am missing the Albion lineup and/or scorers for five games. If any of you fine people could help me out with the missing info it would be much appreciated. Time is tight and any trip to the library (with those awful microfilm readers) saved would be a godsend.

I am missing the following lineups and goalscorers:

1964/65 Hartlepool 1-1 Brighton
1964/65 Brighton 5-0 Hartlepool
1968/69 Hartlepool 2-5 Brighton
1968/69 Brighton 1-1 Hartlepool

I am also missing the Albion lineup, though I have the scorers, from the (in)famous Fans United game on Feb 8th 1997

1996/97 Brighton 5-0 Hartlepool

Unsurprisingly, 2 draws and 3 defeats. In 26 attempts we have beaten you just once! Give us a break, eh ???

Best wishes
John Phillips

I have a book with the results, attendances and scorers in if you can wait until this evening (upto 1993). I am pretty sure I have some programmes with details of the Fans United 5-0 game.

Is it only one win against us? :D

Yep, just the one win

P26 W1 D13 L12

At least I was there for the win in 1993! :clap2:

Sadly I was there for a fair few others as well :annoyed:

Tonight would be great, BoF. Much appreciated.

I have the matchday programme of the fans untied game at home, so can find the team news, be about 5pm

I do remember from that game thinking we were already relegated, even though we were 6 points behind Doncaster with 15ish games to go

The win put you exactly six points behind Doncaster with exactly 15 games left. Well remembered!

The programme from the next home game after the 5-0 would be better, unless your programme has a far better record than ours of getting the lineup right! But any programme from later that season should have the correct team in it.

All help appreciated of course

As was I. Will never forget the bloke on the tannoy yelling "We are safffffffe" at the end.

I also seem to remember being pissed and trying to cop off with a WPC too....

:love::blush:

Oh the relief that day was heartfelt, believe me. That was an astonishing season.

We were joint top in October, still unbeaten away from home going into November, and won at Fulham on Dec 28th to go into the New Year in 4th place. Then we beat Premiership Crystal Palace on MOTD on Jan 2nd. We were flying.

Then the wheels not so much came off as exploded! Our next 13 games were 0-0, 0-1, 0-0, 0-1, 0-3, 0-2, 0-2, 0-2, 0-1, 0-2, 0-1, 0-2, 0-0. Thirteen horrible games without so much as a GOAL! A new Football League record no less. It was torture, and it didn't end when we finally scored. In all we went 21 games with just one win, and dropped from 4th to 4th bottom. We'd played a game more than all our rivals, we were two points behind fifth bottom, we had a worse goal difference, we had four games left, we were doomed.

THEN... we had a spectacularly unlikely 1-0 win at champions-elect Stoke, who were ten points clear and had the trophy ready for presentation if they won. We scored early through Johnrose and they battered us for 90 minutes but we hung on, with Martin Hodge having the game of his life. We lost the next one but so did Preston and we went into our game against yourselves, who we had never beaten, a point clear of Preston with two games left each.

We won. Preston lost. PARTY TIME!!!!!! :bounce:

Ah, sub the hat-trick boy to ensure an ovation in front of a packed house. Nice touch.

Much appreciated Mendoza. I'll update the site tonight. :)

This post is almost the definition of what it is to be the fan of a lower league football club. Good luck with this project, Sisyphus:)

Not quite sure what the N means. Two players had that next to their entries. Subs? ???

NB I am going to double check again to make sure they are correct. The book contains a grid system for appearances, so there is the potential to make a mistake.

Fantastic stuff BoF   :clap2:

I'd guess that N might mean "not used"? You're right that a sub will have been allowed in 68/69 where they were not in the earlier season. Maybe Turner and Lawton were both named on the bench but didn't get on. I know neither of them started every game that season so it's possible. Lawton started 34 league games and Turner started 35.

I'll get those entered right now and then my Brighton lineups and scorers will be complete.

Thanks once again
John

I was at that 1-1 game and flying winger dave Armstrong scored in the last min to save us from losing.

We had bean expecting an easy win because it was not long since that 5-2 away win when Alex dawson scored 4 and Howard Wilkinson (yes, the one who went into management) were the scorers.
