Personally I'm not that much of a fan, so as yet I'll still on 0 eaten.

My reason for writing is I have just despatched my first Stollen of the season.

What quantity of seasonal fayre, didn't make it to Christmas Week?.

We have a spreadsheet in our office evaliuating many different types and brands of mince pie by the filling, pasty, appearence and overall taste. Each person scores the mince pie and then the spreadsheet automatically averages out everybodies total scores to give an average total for each pie.

So far we have tried ten different varieties and the one's from that 'sandwitch man' who drives around our trading estate in his van is winning with a lofty average score of 32/40. Sainsbury's 'puff mince pies' are in last place with an average of 26/40.

The things we do to pass the time...

I bought a pack of 6 from Greggs today to share with the guys in my office

Verdict:
Appearance 7/10 - they look as if they haven't been baked but I think they used a light pastry, good shape though and a nice sprinkling of icing sugar
Amount of mince 8/10 - A decent full pie
Size 8/10 - Slightly bigger than your standard shop bought ones
Taste 7/10 - A good taste but missing that wow factor you get with a top notch pie
Overall 30/40

I am going to make some at the weekend using a recipe from the Beeb website, they have ground almond in the pastry and I will probably add some brandy to the mincemeat to give a bit more flavour...will let you know what the verdict is.

Last year I bought a pack of ALDI mince pies and they were actually pretty good

Oh we've also devoured a tub of Celebrations, which is not big or clever, and something we certainly aren't proud of.

I've made my own this year. My own mincemeat AND pastry.

Anyone can try one if they want one.

I wouldn't rate my chances if I got between you and your mince pies
