Hi

A friend of mine is doing some work on Brighton in the 1980s and needs some help with memories from that time.

I thought, who better to ask than the good people of NSC?

Basically, if anyone has any memories of the following could they post them on here? Much appreciated.

Memories / info needed on:

- Brighton's best bars / clubs etc. Where they were, what they were like, what made them so good?

- Fashions in Brighton. What was everyone wearing? Where were the best places to buy your clobber from? Haircut trends etc?

- Football wise: big games, crowd trouble at The Goldstone, the match day experience, popular pubs pre and post match, crowd favourite players, match day characters etc.

- Music: Best local bands, best gigs in Brighton, best places to go for live music.

- General info: What sort of place was Brighton under Thatcher and the Tories? What social changes were taking place? Big employers? What was it like growing up in 80s Brighton etc.

Cheers.

Seem to recall there was some kind of bomb that almost blew Thatcher off the bog and straight to hell. Or as one wag at the time put it: 'the guys nearly made her a bigger curnt than she is already'

and, at this time of year, getting your school gear from colts down the bottom of the escalators.

You had an afro didn't you? I had a Jason Donovan mullet and CT had the back of his hair permed!

Beer - Holsten Pils or Holsten Export was everywhere, even over Tottenham shirts. I bought my first pint in the eighties. It cost £1.02.

Weed - Everyone used to smoke rocky black, gold seal, red seal, squidgy or my personal favourite slate. It always cost £7.50 for a teenth or £15 an eighth, although I was very far down the food chain in those days. :smokin:

Football - Ski hats in the North Stand
