Mark Gall, Remember him?

Over there
Was talking to people at work about players who you thought would be massive, then disappeared into the mists of time. I recalled a forward Mark Gall, only played a few games for us but looked quality. Scored goals ( I remember a mazey run and smashing one in, in front of the north stand)
Had an operation in the summer and never played again. I remember being told that he had to retire cos when they opened him up for a routine cartilage operation they found that it was rotting due to dodgy old surgery when he was young.
Remember him? Also anyone else who you thought would be great but plunged into obscurity

Sure do...saw him score the winner in a 1-0 win at Newcastle in 1992...

Despite only joining the club two months into the season, the "ever-willing and speedy" Gall finished as Brighton's top scorer, with 14 goals in all competitions (13 in the League). He "quickly became a crowd favourite in a struggling side", and was chosen as the club's Player of the Season.[12] He never played professional football again. After two operations on his left knee, Gall retired on specialist medical advice in December 1992[13] and resumed working in the family bakery

Mark Gall was absolute quality .. built like a brick s**thouse I recall.
Shame we never saw more of him in the blue & white stripes (or was it the horrible pink kit back then?)

Gall was superb. We bought him from Maidstone I think. I was GUTTED when it turned out he was forced to retire. :-(

Glad others remember him with fondness. Was amazing and could have been a legend. I was gutted when he retired

Totally agree, an excellent player and could have gone to legend status. We bought him from Maidstone Utd for 45k at the same time as Mark Beeney. I remember shortly afterwards Maidstone went bust and a few of their supporters where in the North Stand watching two of their former players.

He was absolute quality. Remember him chasing a nothing ball towards the north stand byline, cutting it back and slotting it home. One of bazza's better buys. Absolutely gutted he had to retire. Didn't the club buy him a van as a payoff?
