All the pundits were predicting approx 22 golds for GB. I'm not so sure. There will be some ' bankers ' and ' nailed ons ' that don't come in and that means that there have to be some surprise golds.
Along similar lines, I read on Wikipedia last night that Hungary have the second highest number of medals per capita, a fact that really shocked me.Lowest number of medals (9) won by a host country was in 1968 at Mexico City.
Canada won 0 gold medals at Montreal.
On average, the host country finishes 5th in the medal table.
At the 1904 games, most events (49 out of 92) only had competitors from the United States.

Taking both Summer and Winter Olympics into account, only the United States, the Soviet Union and Germany have won more medals than Great Britain. The same applies to the Summer Olympics.
The country that has won most Winter Olympics medals is Norway.
I think we will do well to match Beijing total. However, Team GB were targeting 45 medals or something, and have only missed out on men's cycling so far.All the pundits were predicting approx 22 golds for GB. I'm not so sure. There will be some ' bankers ' and ' nailed ons ' that don't come in and that means that there have to be some surprise golds.
I'm going for a figure around that of Beijing. ( Where we over-performed )Anything more is a bonus.
1992 Barcelona
Spain: 13 / 7 / 2 - 22 (6th)
2004 Athens
Greece: 6 / 6 / 4 - 16 (15th)
Would think those are the ones to beat. Spain did incredibly well unfortunatly so set the bar rather high! I predict around the 22 medals but not as many gold, about 8th or 9th place would be good result
You either own Google LB or you should be a resident on Question of Sport
I think we can bank on some homegrown surprises. In the same way some 'bankers' will surprise us.
Agreed that Beijing target seems sensible.
1948 London
Great Britain: 3 / 14 / 6 - 23 (12th)

Even in Cav's event, it's not like he's been a total failure, as cycling is very competitive.
