im looking for a new telly and took a good look at some today. erm, is it me or is the picture on them a bit crap? theres loads of pixelating, lines and text showup all jagged, and high contrast areas have show as big solid colour blocks. and this is in Sony shop where id assume they tweek the setting to get optimum picture. The Derby was on and the horses look like 10 tone oil paintings if you see what i mean.

have we been conned into buying a new wave of technology that is actually quite shit ???

Go into any independent TV shop and see the TV's set up properly.

Personally I have a Pioneer Plasma and i'm happy but there are good LCD's around.

Like anything, the more you spend the better the quality.

but havent you just been caught up in the hype? :p

how can settings remove the pixelation, that comes from too large a dot pitch and too clearly defined boudrties to the individual pixels. what about the lag and artifacts with high speed changes? on smaller ones, upto about 20 inch, picture is great. its like the tecnology has scaled up properly for the large ones. or you have to spend £1500 to a decent one.

Two year old 32" Beko LCD here, its decent but I'd still go for the fastest response LCD possible, or a plasma if you never intend to watch Sky News.

yeah, I'm an idiot and I look at a shat picture and convince myself it is great!

Mine cist a grand a year agon, but you can pick it up for £6-700 now, which is most annoying, but there are reasonably priced ones out there.

No, we've all got bigger homes.

I can't see the point of paying out a fortune on a TV, when there is sod all worth watching.

its cause the resolution of regular TV, freeview and regular sky (to an extent) is shite.

try blowing up the little NSC logo in the top to fit your screen and you'll see artifacts in that too.

buy a decent telly, then buy HD = sorted ;)

or buy a smaller lcd

Sorry, but your wrong. If a football is kicked at pace on a CRT TV the ball is visible at all times. On an LCD (seen it proven), and probably a plasma, the ball actually dissapears for fractions of a second because the refresh rate is so poor.
The reason many people are not aware of this is that the brain reconstructs the passage of the ball.

Why do you think all demos in shops on LCD and plasma screens show slow moving pictures.:nono:

Whilst agreeing with your comments generally I have to say I was referring to my particular telly.

I was looking at the tellys in ASDA only yesterday, and the quality of the individual product seems to be the key.

They had a 32" CRT by some unknown brand with a great picture, for £199. Pure flat screen too. Downside is that you'd need a flatbed truck to get it home, and a TV unit built from girders to support it!

In contrast a 26" LCD by a shit brand had a greatly inferior picture, but of course was light and convinient. You had to go up to a grand before the picture quality on the LCDs matched the £199 CRT.

Whereas your brain works slow enough to spot the fault?!

Cant argue with your reasoning, but then some people are happy with MP3.
