I was watching BBC Breakfast this morning and they were talking about the huge rise in use of the horse tranquiliser, ketamine as a recreational drug.

Some people were telling awful stories of how their stomachs and bladders have been completely destroyed by this drug and it being sold openly in India. As someone that has never tried it, I found it quite shocking. Is ketamine really that harmful or are the media trying to scare youngsters like the Leah Betts ecstasy tragedy in the mid nineties?

???

I seem to recall it made me feel like liquid mercury being washed across the blade of a spade. That was just before I became unconscious & I woke up (eventually) feeling like shit.

So, if that's your kind of thang...

In the early 90's I was going to raves every weekend. Back then Ketamine was also known as Special K. I don't know if it still called that now, but I know a few people who took it. I never went that far, because everyone including me where taking E's every weekend, that was enough for me.

In the end around 94 I got a bit fed up with feeling constantly crap and staying up all night, and we all kind of gave up and moved away from the scene and started taking life more seriously.

I am not proud of what I did when I look back, but I must admit I had a great time, and when you are 19 you feel indestructible and can handle staying up for 36 hours, and still get in to work on Monday looking half dazed.

Now I get to bed at a sensible time so my mind is focused for the next day. From the stories I read these days, it sounds to me drugs are lot more powerful and dangerous to what we had. And the stories I hear are awful. I certainly would not trust any pill.

Ketamine is only dangerous if it is abused or mixed with other substances.

It is mostly used as a club or party drug, in moderation, for its dissociative qualities (feeling smashed).

However, because of its dissociative qualities most people do not feel the need to bring it into their every day lives as it would mean they cannot work or socialise.

But some people do, they are known on the streets as "K-heads". A K-head is usually an unemployed 18-25 year old (rarely older than that because they are forced to quit from pain from organ damage) who build up a tolerance to the dissociative side of the drug and mainly use it in small doses throughout the day to maintain a "fluffy" feeling that is akin to being stoned from weed or valium high. This results in psychological dependance and many will continue abusing the drug until the pain is intolerable.

Hope this helps.

Doesn't sound like much fun at all and probably nowhere near as good as E's have been with the 'loved-up' feeling around others.

Maybe I'm getting old but I've never been offered ket or been tempted to try it and the replies suggest that's a good idea with possible organ failure.

Leave well alone. Why does one need to take mind altering drugs to enjoy ones' self?

Never had a cup of coffee? or a beer?

Personally never touched Ketamine.

Shrooms and Ganja all the way
