Sky Sports News understands that Crystal Palace have sacked manager Steve Kember after a disastrous run of results.
The South Londoners have won just once in their last 13 league games, and Sarturday's 5-0 reverse at Wigan proved to be the final straw for chairman Simon Jordan.

Jordan appointed Kember permanently during the summer after the 55-year-old had stepped in as caretaker boss following the dismissal of Trevor Francis last April.

Veteran defender Kit Symons has agreed to take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis as the club begins its search for Kember's successor.

Oldham boss Iain Dowie and former Wycombe chief Lawrie Sanchez have been mooted as early front-runners for the Selhurst Park post as The Eagles look for their third manager in just six months.

Kember has been allowed to keep the his company caravan as part of the severance package.

Please, please, please let it be Sanchez!

They really do deserve each other.

They'll get Dowie though I reckon.

Did they learn NOTHING from what happened to us last season ?
Show me an appointment from within, and I'll show you a disaster waiting to happen.

Boo - what did they do that for? He was doing a splendid job of trying to get them relegated.

Steve Coppell has emerged as favourite for the Crystal Palace manager's job following the sacking of Steve Kember.

Kember was axed after a disastrous run of only one win in 13 games which has seen the Eagles slump to 20th in Division 1 after winning their first three league games.

Oldham Athletic manager Iain Dowie, who is a former Palace player, and former Wycombe Wanderers boss Lawrie Sanchez have already been mooted as possible contenders for the Selhurst Park hotseat.

But we understand Eagles legend Coppell and chairman Simon Jordan are sensationally ready to bury the hatchet, with Coppell returning to South London for his fifth spell in charge.

The surprise move would mean Palace paying compensation to Reading for Coppell, who moved to the Madejski Stadium from Brighton & Hove Albion on a two-year contract only last month.

Jordan is prepared to accept the financial consequences of a swoop for Coppell as the move would be popular with Eagles fans.

A source close to Coppell said he would relish the challenge of keeping Palace in Division 1, rather than the less likely prospect of taking mid-table Reading into the play-offs or better this season.
