30p for him to be your big match companion ?

What a bargain.

Imagine the tales of bravery at half time.

How embarrassing. Only drew 2-2 with a bunch of men in tartan skirts and flock-wallpaper jackets. Ray Clarke and an inbred own goal for us, and 19,259 witnessed that sartorial abomination. Anyway, they got relegated out of the old Division One that season, along with Derby County and Bolton Wanderers. We finished 16th, above those three and Everton, Stoke City and Manchester City.

Albion's line-up: Graham Moseley, John Gregory, Gary Williams, Brian Horton, Steve Foster, Gary Stevens, Gerry Ryan, Peter Ward, Ray Clarke, Mark Lawrenson, Peter O'Sullivan. Sub: (not used) Giles Stille

And how nostalgia-inducing is THAT? All credit to our current team for doing their best (generally) but look at that line-up? SEVEN full internationals played for us on that day - Foster, Ward, Stevens, Gregory, (England) Ryan, Lawrenson, (Eire), O'Sullivan (Wales). A team that included Albion's two best-ever players (Ward and Lawrenson)... and did we appreciate then that we were seeing the Albion at their absolute zenith?

Er, no....

In all honesty we were probably distracted by the brave celtic warrior.

Time to dig out some old Brighton programmes I think.

Myself and Burrish were on the cover for a whole season during the early eighties.
