Armed with a couple of print outs from oh-so-cheap Internet retailers I found myself in John Lewis yesterday perusing their array of Apple products.
I had swayed on this for a long time: Do I buy an iPod?
I asked the chap if they had the 40gb in stock. "We do sir. Would you like one?"
"You do price match online retailers, don't you?", I asked.
"No", he said before commencing on a monologue as to the fixed costs models of online and bricks and mortar retailers and how they'd pricematch Dixons etc. if they were selling cheaper. By this point I was mesmorized by the little white box and duly handed over my bit of plastic to secure one.
I took it home. Usually with gadgets like this I get all excited. I was not excited in the slightest. I carefully took it from it's box and marvelled at it. I didn't remove any of the plastic sealing from it however.
It is sitting next to me right now with "Don't steal music." sticker still in place.
So - the quandry - do I keep it or take it back? I guess I'm not sure how much I'll use it. I'll use it in the gym. I could use it at work, but I currently use my laptop for MP3 playing. I could use it in the car with the little radio transmitter thingummy, thereby giving me all my music (and that of others) whenever I'm on the move. I suppose I could use it at home similarly to save arsing about with CDs.
The other part of the quandry is that there are supposedly better devices out there - like the Creative 60gb effort that costs £50 less. But it's not an iPod is it?
NSC - over to you - keep it or take it back?
