Think you'll find mate, we will have to police a lot of games this season, leeds, Cardiff, Palace, West Ham, Millwall, etc... this has been done purely for history. The police cannot get away from the fact that they will have to police games, whatever day of the week it is.

No, but in the same way the stadium has to have ramp up events, are you saying that the police can not request that the first fixture to be at full capacity is a specific team/one of a number of teams that, based on history, will cause no problems?

Yes they can... and they may have requested it, but this is totally on the back of the club. If the league had to put up with all requests from police, West Ham and Millwall would never get to play a game.

I decided to drop Darren Balkham an email to get a definitive response as to whether it was the club, the police or both that requested it, or if it was just one of those things. Within minutes I received this:

When we completed the fixture questionnaire for this season last April for the FA we looked at the first game and this would have been our choice. We supported the club in their request also.

Rest assured the history of last at goldstone and first at the Amex was not forgotten when I sat down with the club.......

Enjoy tomorrow.

They've got the rugby league challenge cup semi final on Sunday as I'm getting off the train on the way back from the Amex, not too sure why they couldn't have played at home the day before?

Who knows?
The sooner JR and Co., buy the stadium, the better. And it seems to be on the cards.
