Well he'll always have less international goals than Chilavert and that other keeper then....

Gave his all for his country whenever called upon and never let us down, did his job for the benefit of the team and probably to the detriment of him.

Had a similar goals/scoring/apps record to Peter Beardsley. Oh and a great middle name as well. IVANHOE.

Thanks Emile. I sincerely hope we NEVER have a striker with a strike rate as bad ever again.

On a side note, his wiki entry makes good reading;

"He retired from internation football on 15th July 2010, probably because he couldn't be bothered with the country always asking, 'why is Heskey playing'?"

A striker who can't score of the Christophe Dugarry mould. At least it means he's not available for selection any more. Seems the only way he was going to lose his place permanently.

Can only hope his actions SHAME some of the more massive egos into following suit.

Too right. Of course, if we had a team full of world-class players, he wouldn't have got a look in. But we don't - and he did.

And there were times when he was head and shoulders above the rest.

As evidence, your honour, I cite the Euro 2000 Wembley play-off second leg against Scotland, when England (2-0 up from the first away leg) didn't know what to do.

Scotland scored and looked certain to equalise, until Emile came on with 30 mins to go. All England did was lump it up to the big fella, who kept the ball with his back to goal time and time again and kept the ball in their half.

It wasn't pretty, but it worked. And that's what you get with Emile.

7 goals in 62 int. apps, i'd expect more goals from a central defender in 62 apps. At least he played for England though, none of us ever will.

How do you work that out?

Peter Beardsley;
Domestic 755 games 237 goals a goal every 3.19 games
International 59 games 9 goals a goal every 6.56 games

Emile Heskey;
Domestic 641 games 144 goals a goal every 4.45 games
International 62 games 7 goals a goal every 8.86 games

Heskey needed an extra 113 minutes to score a goal for his club, and 207 minutes to score a goal for his country.
