.from some spohisticated person in Preston Circ challenging the council to help to Albion if need be and to stop throwing money and resources on the hoardes of cockneys who turn up every weekend. It is written by a person who appears inelligent and who has his finger on the pulse.

No need!

Upon reading your sensational headline regarding Osvaldo Ardiles and Diego Maradona being interested in investing in the Albion (The Argus, October 4), I feel it is necessary that, should John Prescott say "no" to Falmer, which I hope is unlikely, Brighton and Hove City Council should pull out all the stops to develop another area for our community stadium.

Forget about throwing money on visitors and organised groups who come down for the weekend, leave a load of mess, moan they can't park anywhere and then clog up the streets for hours upon end.

All resources should be put towards our very own jewel, Brighton and Hove Albion, who are the best advertisement the twin city has.

That said, I expect Prescott will say go ahead with Falmer and the Albion will again be prominent in the nation's football community.

Another letter

Letter: Thank you for having us all

Please allow me to thank people in Brighton for hosting the Labour Conference for the past two years.

It is always a right palaver when political conferences come to town, what with the security, bustle and disruption you get.

It is amazing how kind and friendly people were throughout the week in Brighton. I was treated with great humour and generosity by everyone I met (including the Labour stewards!).

I'm looking forward to the next time and the new Brighton Centre, all being well.

Good luck with the campaign for Falmer. Everyone I talked to in the Labour party is supportive - though I didn't get a chance to talk to John Prescott!
