DAVE was the guitar player. On their audition for Pye, his amp had a broken speaker that made a fuzzed-up effect.
That was kept in, for their first singles. Ray(his brother) told us at The Dome.
Jimmy Page supposedly worked those early sessions, and Shel Talmy got him in for the WHO on 'Can't Explain - Townshend was also interested in recreating the Kinks sound on their debut single.
