"Beer must be sold at all venues hosting matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, football's world governing body, Fifa, has insisted.

Fifa General Secretary Jerome Valcke said the right to sell beer must be enshrined in a World Cup law the Brazilian Congress is considering.

Alcoholic drinks are currently banned at Brazilian stadiums and the country's health minister has urged Congress to maintain the ban in the new law.

Brewer Budweiser is a big Fifa sponsor.

BBC News - Beer at Brazil World Cup, says Fifa

Although I might agree that the no-beer-at-soccer-venues law is crap, I find that FIFA's arrogance is breathtaking - anything to schmooze the sponsors!

If successful, will FIFA then insist that only one brand of beer can be sold?

i really hope Brazil stick to their guns on this. seeing the way the Olypmics has trampled all over London with their precious requirements, someone needs to put these sport oligarchs back in their box.

Absolutely, but if the "full strength" Bud is too much, perhaps they should settle on Bud Lite.

You can drink about 5 cases of that stuff and not feel a thing. Perfect compromise I reckon.
