We'll get Falmer. Because the Club have prepared a robust planning application and supported it with a superb performance at the Public Inquiry. That has cost a fortune.
If Falmer is turned down, there is no prospect of Withdean being developed to provide the facilities that the Club needs.
Nor is there an alternative site in the Brighton area that offers the possibility of a 22,000 seater stadium. Even if someone thinks there is, then a difficult planning application would have to be worked up - at a cost that is beyond the resources available to the Club. And the likelihood of that planning application being successful is less than Falmer.
So we could possibly stay at Withdean. But our planning permission to use Withdean is conditional upon having an alternative site in prospect. To stay at Withdean permanently would need a further planning application, which would be opposed vigorously by a number of organisations (including, possibly, the City Council - where the Labour Group no longer has a majority). The costs of that process would be enormous. Don't imagine that they wouldn't eat into the playing budget.
All these factors come together in one sentence -
The Albion cannot survive as a football club with any aspirations if Falmer is turned down.
