Meanwhile, students from the University of Sussex backing the opposition movement received a blow to their campaign when just 13 people turned out for a debate about the planned stadium.

The meeting took place on Wednesday night (April 25) at an almost empty Common Room at the university.

Brilliant. That's even less than his first meeting.

30,000 postcards were sent in total. A great effort by everybody.

Falmer date confirmed
By Andy Tate

The long-awaited decision on Brighton and Hove Albion's Falmer Stadium dreams will be announced by July 9, the Government confirmed yesterday APR26.

The news came in a Parliamentary written answer to Brighton Pavilion MP David Lepper on the tenth anniversary of Albion's final match at the former Goldstone Ground.

Mr Lepper had called on ministers to name the date they planned to make their announcement.

He had also demanded details of the warnings they had received about the impact on the club of further delays to the decision.

Junior Minister Meg Munn replied: "Following the quashing of the original decision on this case in the High Court, representations were sought on a range of issues from interested parties.

"A number of those representations address the impact on the football club of the lack of a final decision."

Ms Munn, who refused to divulge the details of the warnings the Government had received, added that there were "no plans" to change the July 9 deadline.

Yesterday morning campaigners from Falmer for All joined Brighton and Hove's three Labour MPs, Mr Lepper, Des Turner and Celia Barlow, to deliver 5,000 postcards to the Department for Communities and Local Government's headquarters at Eland House in Bressenden Place, London.

It takes the total number of protest cards sent to the Government to more than 30,000.

One of those who travelled to London, Paul Samrah from Falmer for All, told The Argus: "Ten years on from when we left the Goldstone Ground we are optimistic.

"We have a had a 'yes' decision before and there is no reason why it should not be reaffirmed.

"We have done everything we possible can."

Today APR27 is the final day for official submissions about the club's stadium proposals.

Meanwhile, students from the University of Sussex backing the opposition movement received a blow to their campaign when just 13 people turned out for a debate about the planned stadium.

The meeting took place on Wednesday night (April 25) at an almost empty Common Room at the university.

The bit about April 27 being the final day for official submissions about the club's stadium proposals isn't quite true. The DCLG yesterday sent out a copy of a representation sent in February which hadn't previously been circulated to the interested parties for comment. There's another one due to be circulated as well.

The deadline for the receipt of comments has therefore been extended to 9 May.

But the letter from the DCLG does confirm that "The Secretary of State will still issue her final decision on or before 9 July 2007. This will be the final timetable for this case unless advised otherwise".

so lets get this all clear now for everyone.
if the decision is a yes, then what?

can building work commence or not.

LDC undoubtedly will appeal so what does that mean?
no work can start until further appeals?

can someone in the know please list the expected routing for the stadium because even if its a yes decision, it still not all plain sailing is it

meanwhile these hoolie students.......

People living near a university have told how their neighbourhood has become a "student ghetto".

Residents in Bevendean, Brighton, say they are being kept awake by loud music, shouting, and drunken parties.

Angry people living in The Avenue, which is opposite the University of Brighton's Lewes Road site, say the greens which run through the centre of their neighbourhood have become no-go areas.

Once a place for dog walkers and children, they say the greens now play host to drunken students, smashed vodka bottles and impromptu 3am football matches.

The problem has been exacerbated by the ballooning buy-to-let market, with up to 60 per cent of homes in the area now privately let.

One resident, who did not want to be named for fear of recriminations, said: "Each year we home owners live in fear of what the students will be like, and each year it gets worse.

advertisement"Bevendean has become a student ghetto. Night after night we are kept awake by yelling and shouting. There has also been vandalism. I've asked the students to keep quiet but I just get abuse back."

Carol Mitchell, 61, of The Avenue, said: "I have lived around this area since 1959 and the problems have got worse and worse.

"Obviously we are so close to the university that people are buying just to rent out to students. This used to be such a lovely area with a real community spirit, but not these days.

"We are not saying they are all bad, but there seems to be a lot more hassle than there used to be."

Residents say other problems include leaving bins out on the wrong days and allowing gardens to become unkempt and overgrown.

Moulsecoomb and Bevendean city councillor Jack Hazelgrove said: "I have been made aware of problems with students in the ward, often to do with leaving sacks of rubbish out on the wrong days.

"The demographics of the area have changed dramatically with people buying up houses to let out. I'm afraid it is a case of live and let live but students must respect their neighbours."

A spokeswoman for the University of Brighton said: "While we cannot confirm whether the comments made refer to students from our university, we take complaints regarding our students extremely seriously and would take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.

"The university is working with the Bevendean Local Action Team to build positive relations between students and residents. We are currently developing neighbourly initiatives to inform students in Bevendean about matters such as rubbish collection and noise pollution."

A spokeswoman for the University of Sussex said: "The university is proud to be a part of Brighton and many of its students form strong, permanent attachments to the city and become active and productive members of the community.

"Along with the University of Brighton, we have been working with the Bevendean Local Action Team to address any concerns that residents in the Bevendean area may have about student neighbours.

"The university encourages its students to be community-minded. For example, the university arranges housing workshops for students considering a move into privately-rented accommodation, which cover practical concerns and raise awareness of rubbish collections and noise."

So, if LDc and FPC do launch yet another appeal, Albion fans should form a company and apply for planning permission for student housing on the site if the stadium bid goes tits up.

That way those Falmer scumbags have a choice: they can look forward to living next to a no go area and rivers of piss running into their shithole of a 'village'. Or they can drop their vicious, snob driven campaign and enjoy our company every 2 weeks...

We lived in Redvers road and had loads of students living in the road at that time we had firework parties until the early hours, people peeing up against cars, puking all over the place, just a normal night on a residential estate near the university, must say though not all were like that some of them were actually trying to become part of the community and were helpful in the area and some even used to have the blue and white on saturday afternoon and go and support the albion.
they are not all bad and why they should have any objection to falmer god only knows but it seems that would be very inconsequential now anyway 13 its a joke. :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:
