Not to everyone's taste but in the vein of the Rod Stewarts and Bob Dylans of this world I'll plump for Tom Waits.

Mary Margaret O'Hara - have a listen to her singing backing vocals on 'November spawned a Monster'.

Antony Hegarty - from Antony and the Johnsons. Very idiosyncratic

Jamie McDermott from the Irrepressibles - similar to Antony and the Johnsons.

Olaf Arnalds - protege of Bjork and a real Icelandic treat

Fever Ray - kind of barks her songs at times

Aneka - Anglo/German who definitely shouts in a fine Teutonic way

Alina Orlova - Lithuanian warbly kind of Regina Spector

Mary Gauthier - American country (type) singer

Joanna Newsom - quite wacky

Stina Nordenstam - see Joanna Newsom

.....will that do for now?

Actually - country and folk singing is littered with warblers and yodellers. Dick Gaughan, Lindisfarne, Steeleye Span, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Sandy Denny.

Johnny Cash's missus had a superb yodel on her. Hank Williams could yodel like an Austrian. Dr John sings like he's got a mouth full of jambalaya.
