"It's sometimes harder with a numerical advantage and it was a good experience for our lads, a really good test for us. It was a difficult last five minutes. We didn't want to sit too deep and our defensive line wasn't great at the end. I can't recall playing for such a long time against nine men, but the atmosphere the Brighton fans created was terrific and if you stand off for one second someone like Craig Mackail-Smith will punish you."

fair comments I have to say

The only thing he didn't mention was that it was actually 12 against 9.

Sorry but that is a joke. I've just had a look on the burnley forum and their fans are holding it up as some sort of great performance, they must be f***ing mental.

10 v 11 can be difficult because of how the team with 10 sets itself, but with 9 v 11 the team with 11 should really be pissing all over the 9 players. The space they had at times was incredible but they didn't know how to use it. They are too stupid to realise they should be putting 5 past us in 80 minutes of 11 v 9, not clinging onto a single goal advantage.

That reminds me. Did anyone else hear Richard Reynolds shout "Come on Albion fans, be the 12th man" at the start of the second half? Does that man either not watch the game, or is he just a bit of an idiot?

Burnley were total shit today, an absolute disgrace of an effort against 9 men. I cant remember 1 decent chance in the second half whereas we had an absolute peach of an opportunity.

Er, no. He said that is what's usually asked, but this afternoon the crowd needed to be the "11th or 10th man".

Fair enough, all apologies to him. Couldn't hear a lot from the North Stand, never can (think its since someone on here moaned about the speakers being too loud), but I was pretty sure he just said about the 12th man. My mistake.

Some more from Howe @ clarets-mad

"I've never been in a game like that before. It was the strangest atmosphere to a game that I've known and the lads on the pitch felt it as well.

"The Brighton fans were excellent and stuck behind their team and all their frustration was vented towards the officials, which, if they are sendings off is harsh on them. The fourth official was in a clear view (for the first) and he saw it.

" I didn't actually see it, but he had the same view that Jason (Tindall) had and saw it as a clear sending off. But for me to comment on either sending off though, without looking at the incidents again and reviewing them would be foolish.

"Then we got the lead and didn't have to chase so much any more but we always knew there would be a period in the game though when Brighton would go for it and we wanted to get that second goal.

"There was a little bit of fun at the end when Brighton came at us, but we managed to hold on. We are just pleased to have got the win and the three points."

He added: "The pleasing things from my point of view is that the lads kept their heads. It would have been easy to get drawn in and the crowd would have liked the referee to even things up.

"The main message at half time was to keep our heads and keep our discipline to retain our numerical advantage. The easiest thing in the world would have been to get caught up in it. Brighton felt aggrieved and were trying to get reactions from our players and I have to say, we kept our nerve and discipline well for a young side, which is pleasing.

"All in all it was a really strange game and a difficult one for us. People will say we had two men to the good and it should have been quite comfortable, but Brighton, to their credit, defended very, very well and made it difficult.

"They isolated Mackail-Smith from his team mates and defended the 18-yard box and it was like a training session of attack v defence. I thought we probed and we passed and created chances, but it was really difficult because all the pressure was on us and we could only mess it up.

"That's four out of five wins now, which is a great statistic and now we go into these two home games looking to keep going in the right direction."

I've got to say, Burnley were utter horseshit from where I was. I can't believe how much they gave it away when all they had to do was knock it around us. Their shooting- toe poke goal aside- was abysmal, their balls into the box crap, and I was frankly astonished in the last few minutes to see their keeper punting the ball forward rather than just pass it to his full backs where we'd never have got it back. Their defence looked extremely weak- against one striker!- and CMS was easily winning headers against their centre halves. No wonder they concede so many goals. Any decent team would have annihilated us.

One of the weakest teams we've seen at the Amex all season. I still can't quite believe we managed to lose to them, even with nine men.

Again. she speaketh the truth. And, again. Happy Birthday.
Their frontline is scary though - Patterson. Rodriguez, Austin,. Vokes. I like Howe, but he isn't doing enough.

That's true. Some decent strikers in there. But they rarely looked like finding them yesterday. Clearly they were trying to stretch us by knocking it around the edge of the box, but they hardly ever looked like finding the killer pass. There were so many pointless sideways passes, it must have been like watching a tennis match from the South Stand. Or eleven Ray Wilkinses.
