Eastbourne Borough quality

Do any locals know if this was a full strength Eastbourne team. Bearing in mind that they have just competed in the English League's 5th division they were made to look rather poor by our youthful development team who dominated posession and passed it around with aplomb almost at walking pace sometimes. Kasim looked in a completely different class. Most moves went through him. Never hurried and always used the ball well. Surely he is in contention for a first team spot

It's also pre season so they're hardly going to be at the top of their game.

Had a few missing because of injuries and holidays etc, down to about 15 fit players so wasnt at full strength.

Slightly harsh judgement, MnK. Borough had been back in (part-time) training only a fortnight so they did still look a bit off the pace. Eastbourne also had four of their quite small first-team squad injured and two more ineligible. They were missing the three first-choice centre-backs. That said, it was a very fair result and Borough were second best on the day. This crop of Albion youngsters is really useful and they played a lot of football - almost over-played at times but certainly used the ball well and stretched Eastbourne. One useful comparison would be to note that both Grant Hall and Steve Cook, who are both I think highly rated by the club, have had Conference/Conference South loan spells in the last twelve months. And it's possible a certain goal-scorer might be extending his career with a certain semi-pro club.... So the standard is not very far apart.

Wonderful stadium and memorable occasion. After a lot of initial doubts about this whole SSC idea, it was actually good that non-league could be represented on one of your big days. Great times for the Albion. I had maybe the best seat in the house (on commentary) but still got a bit wet ! Many thanks to the club for some great hospitality, and good wishes for the season.

Hmmm ... only partly agree with some of the comments on here. l thought Borough, especially in the first half, made a really good fist of it, and certainly had as much of the general play as we did, they carved out one or two decent half chances too. lt was only in the final 20 minutes or so that Albion's greater fitness levels showed, and were able to finish the game on top.

It's worth mentioning that Rodgers & Sampayo have come to us directly from Chelsea, Simmonds was skipper of the Villa youth team that won the FA Youth cup, only being released because Villa said he was too small, and Kasim was also released by Tottenham.

They started training before us though.

Full time? Honestly have no idea but would expect they are a part time outfit so ours will be training every day with professional fitness people while they are doing running in the evenings after a full day work, no matter how early they started fitness was always going to be an issue

Thought Eastbourne gave a very good account of themselves til they tired towards the end. A fair number of shots on goal even if they were invariably sliced massively wide. Tidy midfield and the keeper made a couple of very good saves.

Crap Town
Eastbourne Borough played in the same division as Grimsby Town last season so there cant be too much quality. There are normally only 4 or 5 stand out teams in the BSP each season , the rest are average or worse.
