Boss Dowie leaves post at Palace

Dowie led Palace to promotion in 2004 but relegation in 2005

Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie has left his position as manager of the Eagles by mutual consent.
The 41-year-old had been in charge at Selhurst Park since December 2003.

Dowie was reported to have fallen out with Palace chairman Simon Jordan after the club missed out on immediate promotion back to the Premiership.

Dowie has been linked with the jobs at Middlesbrough, Charlton and Ipswich and with Preston too, should boss Billy Davies leave Deepdale this summer.

The North End manager has been granted permission to speak to Charlton and will meet with the Addicks on Monday.

Palace finished sixth in the Championship but were beaten 3-0 over two legs in the play-offs by eventual winners Watford.

Simon Jordan is an idiot.

Premiership clubs are after Dowie, that says it all. Who can they replace him with?

What a fool.

What are you talking about? They can challenge you for survival as all your parachute money is gone next year and Ken Bates will decide he cannot be bothered to put money into a useless team.

Only partly right ... he is ugly, but he's arguably the best manager in the championship. Only an idiot would sack someone like Dowie .... Only an idiot for a palace fan would be pleased he's going ..... say's it all really.

The exodus begins.

First Dowie - now watch them go. Watson, Johnson, Soares, Hall. McAnuff, Morrison. Premiership - not for a long, long time.

Nothing like a bit of pressure to motivate, the arse-f*** your manager, is there? And we all know what 'mutual consent' really means.

This is all about Iain dowie not pandering to Simon Jordan and his pathetic ego. What was Jordan's comment at the start of the season about retribution for the first team Palace played in the Championship? Dowie should have left there and then with a stupid statement like that.

His Palace connections aside, I believe Iain Dowie to be a man of integrity, honour and dignity, and one of the best managers in this country at present. His footballing knowledge and tactical awareness are excellent, and his reading of the game really ought to take him to a higher and better club, where he will be treated by a more reasoned and considerate chairman.

When Coppell left here, and Dowie's name was in the frame for the Brighton job, I was seriously hoping he would be offered - and accept - it. Unfortunately, Palace got in there first; his ties with them ensured them getting first refusal. Much as I despise it, he turned Palace's season round in one fell swoop, and I was very, very impressed (as well as sickened) with what he ahcieved.

Good luck in the future, Iain, and wherever you end up (and it won't be long) here's hoping for your sake you get a better chairman to work for than that perma-tanned wankstain you have had to suffer the indignity of working for the past two and a half years.
