I’m sure some of you will remember (mainly because I know some of you contributed to) ‘.........And I’ll Be Kit Napier’ the excellent anthology of Albion supporters’ writing which we published in 2001 in aid of the Youth Development Scheme. (It’s very much a collectors’ item now, having sold out of its 400 print run a couple of months after publication)

Now Corridor, the company who have won the contract for the concourse design in the North and East Stands at Falmer, have asked me to co-ordinate a similar project, with a view to having a display of supporters’ writing in the concourse of the East Stand.

There has already been a mention of this in the programme and over the PA, and contributions are coming in, but nothing so far on NSC, so I thought I’d mention it here too. Prose, poetry or a combination of the two on any Albion-related topic past, present or future, only criterion being that you think it’d work well as part of a display on the concourse, being read by fellow Albion fans passing by. There are some fine writers on here. Over to you, NSC.

Any submissions should be sent to bhawriters@seecorridor.com within the next couple of weeks (say 21 Feb)

I think we need to know how long you are looking for pieces to be.. (probably more angled to prose than poetry.......

and btw, "And I'll be Kit Napier" was FANTASTIC

Haven't written anything since (bad fan), but you're welcome to use the two pomes what I wrote for " ...And I'll Be Kit Napier" and as read by Paul Samrah at the Falmer Hearing at Hove Town Hall. :)

Wilkins - HE WILL SURVIVE

By Easy 10

First I was afraid, I was petrified
Thinkin' I could never live without Dean White by my side
But then I spent so many nights
Thinkin' how Dick did me wrong
I'd not had long - but our performances were strong

Now Micky's back from outer space
I just walked in to find him in my chair and laughing in my face
I should have kicked him in the head
I should have smacked him in the gob
If I'd have known for just one second he'd be back to nick my job
But now I'll go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
Cos I'm not welcome any more
Weren’t you the one who f***ed it up at Coventry ?
Did you think I'd stay here ?
Did you think I'd stir your f***ing tea ?
Oh no, not I. I will survive
Oh as long as I can coach the kids I know that I will thrive
I've got offers from up high
I've got a brother works for Sky
I will survive. I will survive.

I did all the dirty work, pulled the squad apart
Kept trying hard to hold back tears when I ditched Gary Hart
And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for Paul Reid, his knees a mess
But then he gobbed off to the press
So now I'll go, and thank the lord
I'm off to bigger better things, I'll take my tactics board
I'll work for someone who appreciates my class
So you can stick your poxy Withdean and your Falmer up your arse...

I'll survive, I will survive.

Wilkins - HE WILL SURVIVE

And I can confirm that this was VERY much appreciated by EXTREMELY senior people at the Albion when it first appeared.

Knight in White Sacking
Contract reaching the end
A letter I've written
Always meaning to send

Training you'd always missed
With these guys before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore

Cause I've Sacked you
Yes I've sacked you
Oh how I've sacked you

Gazing at Wilkins
Clipboard in Hand
Look what you're going through
Abuse from South Stand

Some try to tell me
That we cannot defend
That's what you're job is
You're shit in the end

And I sacked you
Yes I sacked you
Oh how I sacked you
Oh how I sacked you

[AS APPEARED IN PROGRAMME circa 2005 - while waiting for DoE consent]

PLEA TO JP FOR 2005
-------------------------
Now come on Johnny Prescott, please get off your flippin a**e,
And reach across your desk mate, for the rubber stamp marked PASSED,
Can't you see we've shown the patience, of all the Saints combined,
We've sat and watched our rivals build while we've just lagged behind,

We need Falmer for survival, the future we deserve,
Not one of counting down to death in some nature reserve,
Yes life's protected inside, but that doesn't cover us,
A seabird forced to rent a nest, while causing untold fuss,

We never wanted all this grief, this trouble and this strife,
We never asked for moneymen to almost take our life,
We never asked to trek to Kent or nearly leave the league,
Though we've fought back, the efforts left us suffering fatigue,

We've marched, and had a massive vote to gauge the public's view,
Sent flowers, letters, postcards and a Valentine to you,
Sat through all the enquiries, provided all the facts,
Done all the flaming studies (and it won't affect the bats),

We've even put a record out, to ram the message home,
It climbed high in the music charts, and made the NIMBYs groan,
We've done as much as we can do, exhausted all ideas,
And now it all boils down to you, to banish all our fears,

Please let us build ourselves a home, this City needs a crown,
So that it's known for something more than watching piers fall down,
We just want our own ground again, in Sussex by The Sea,
A stadium not just for us, but the community,

A place where young and old can come and cheer with all their might,
And watch this County's famous team run-out in Blue and White,
A firm and solid base to grow and give us back some pride,
And finally welcome back our fans to come and watch inside,

But right now we're so tired John, and given all we've got,
Waiting to hear if you will just approve the thing or not,
So after this next enquiry, and in 2005,
Give us the YES we've waited for and keep our club alive!

Thanks Lord B.
It might need some careful editing. Not that I'd expect them to include a ditty about the sacking of Deano anyway ...

Well I've taken the plunge and written a poem, never written one before in my life but this thread got me thinking. I've always wanted to do some sort of tribute to my dear old Dad for getting me hooked on the Albion all those years ago. The Tribute stones are ok but you can't put much on them, so I've penned this as a tribute to my Dad, the Goldstone and my feelings toward the Albion. Please forgive any gramatical errors and the couple of rhyming liberties I've taken (poetic license!).

Me and Dad

Please take me to The Goldstone Dad, I’d really like to go
I’ve never seen a football match , oh please, just make it so
I’ll take you son but you must behave and not just muck about
But watch and cheer the boys in blue and maybe give a shout

And watch out if the ball comes near, just mind your head and dip
And pay no heed to naughty words that slip through grown ups lips
So off we went that rainy day in 1962
To see the team in brilliant shirts with stripes of white and blue

The Goldstone was an awesome sight seen through my keen young eyes
The terrace, pitch and people, flood lights towering in the sky
Crowds of people, sights and sounds the smell of grass and ‘fags’
Listening to the grown ups talking, laughing at their gags.

The teams ran out the cheers began, Barrow were the opposition
A song rang out and singing started from all in our position
What is that song called Dad? I asked and why are people singing?
That’s Good old Sussex by the sea, it sometimes helps us winning

We won the game and I was hooked, please can I come again?
I didn’t mind the standing Dad, I didn’t mind the rain
And so began my love affair with the team in blue and white
I really had no choice at all, it always felt just right

Dad died in 1975 and look at what he missed
Promotion to division one, league trophies being kissed
A great day out at Wembley, would he ever have believed
Even though we lost the replay, I doubt if he’d have grieved

The ups and downs, the wins defeats, a rollercoaster ride
But always cheering Albion on with love and hope and pride
The trio of devious traitors who ripped the club apart
The Goldstone being torn down, would have broken his heart

But now our final glory after all the years of pain
We’re moving to our new stadium no more freezing in the rain
So when I take my seat at last, one thing will make me glad
That day in 1962 ,The Goldstone, me and Dad

p.s. Thats my Dad in my avatar, sitting on the left at the front, the picture was taken when his school football team (The Continuation School) won the Brighton & Hove Albion Shield in 1925.

Well I was a bit wary of posting it on here at first knowing how people can get flamed for the slightest innaccuracy or gramatical error. But the your kind comments have convinced me to have a go and submit it. Thankyou again.
