Saturday over Denmark in a European Championship qualifier
after a Danish fan tried to attack the referee for giving a
late penalty.
Denmark had rallied from 3-0 down to level at 3-3 when
German referee Herbert Fandel sent off Denmark defender
Christian Poulsen in the 89th for punching striker Markus
Rosenberg in the stomach.
A spectator ran toward Fandel, but was intercepted by
Danish players. The referee and the linesman then walked
off the pitch.

Just got back from the game. Perhaps the most ridiculous game I've been to alongside the famous Brighton Orient Goldstone game. Denmark 3-0 down at half time. 42,000 absolutely shitfaced Scandinavians. 3-3 after 75 minutes, Tomasson misses open goal to make it 4-3. Poulsen lamps a Swede in the gut and the ref gives a pen only for a lardy fan to come on and try to lamp the ref, but didn't really succeed. Drama queen German ref bottles it and takes the teams off - so 42,000 shitfaced Scandis don't know what's happening next, cue another two knobs to run on the pitch unchallenged. 10 mins later the Swedes come out and rejoice at a 3 - 0 win.
Could have been a full blown riot if in the UK, but fortunately the majority of the pissed hoardes were trying to find somewhere to piss or tasty young blonde wenches to grope.

The result will not be confirmed until an investigation by UEFA's disciplinary committee following receipt of the referee and delegate reports, UEFA said on their Web site.
Local media announced somewhat prematurely that Sweden had been awarded the match 3-0, but the outcome cannot be decided until the disciplinary committee have ruled on the matter.

A penalty against Denmark in the final moments of this match, would have pretty much sealed the result in Sweden's favour as it is.

Now, if the penalty taker was put off from scoring, or the match set at 3-3 after the fan intervention then THAT would punish the Swedish players and fans..... not to mention the actual perceivable advantage gained BY the errant idiot fan for his actions!

Nope, there has to be a disadvantage to Denmark from this - the fault lays with Paulsen, and with the fans who encroached onto the playing area. The ref clearly did not want to endanger his fellow adjudicators, or the players. Job done.

There's no way of telling if the penalty taker would have been distracted by the goings-on, and the hostility that had obviously 'spilled over' may well have intimidated the Swedish players too. What if Denmark got a perceived advantage from this idiotic invasion?

They have to take draconian measures with incidents like this, harsh as it may seem.

If they didn't, and they only fined the Danish FA, then you'd incentivise every idiot to run on the pitch and dish out his form of justice each time he was pissed off.

Lets say someone ran on and twatted Urs Meier, or any of the other refs that have annoyed England fans over the years. If you were the one who did it, would you give a damn if the FA got stiffed with a million quid fine? Probably not. But if you thought England might be docked points or thrown out of a tournament, then you'd probably reconsider (as your face would be on the front of the Sun and you'd never dare show your face at a football ground again...).

The guy that lamped the ref (or cuffed his ear) was a Dane living in Sweden and got released today from custody. He said he couldn't remember anything because he'd had 15 - 20 beers. LIGHTWEIGHT. The prosecutor wants 3 months jail, but looks like he'll get off with a fine. The debate in Denmark now is who is the biggest TWAT - him or Christian Poulsen. With girly hair like his I'd say Poulsen. At least Beckham did it with 20 minutes or so to go against Argentina and didn't give away a pen (after fighting back from 3-0 down).
Really it was a whole catalogue of errors. Stewards that were so passive it was unbelievable - and playing a game like that at 8pm on a Saturday. Imagine the carnage of England vs Scotland at 8pm on a Saturday?
