That's a strange team: three players from relegated teams plus two from the second division. In fact, one of the relegated teams has more players in the team of the season than the champion county has.

It would as if last season's football team of the year included three players from Sheff Utd and Charlton and a couple of players from Derby and Crystal Palace.

But Gibson's award was well-deserved: good choice.

Just seen the full list: how the hell did Yorkshire win Spirit of Cricket award? This is the county that whined and whinged about Kent and Worcs replaying their game. And this is the county that persuaded Jacques Rudolph to sign away his chances of playing for SA in return for vast sums of money.

It should have gone to Durham or Sussex for proving smaller counties can thrive.

By my reckoning there are 6 players on the wrong side of 35 in that side.

Mind you, surely the captain of the Champions should captain the team of the year, especially seeing as he only scored 200 runs less than Key, who captained Kent to 7th in the first division. Mind you, Key did win the all important Twenty20.

It's based on the PCA Rankings, which awards points based on contribution to the side. If you score a high percentage of your teams runs over the course of the season you'll be awarded bonus ranking points. For example, scoring a century in a total innings of 250 is worth more points than a century in a total of 500. A good player in a weak batting side, such as Hick, will be rewarded for it more than in a side that regularly scores heavily.

With regards to second division players, aren't Caddick's 75 wickets for a side that ran away with the second division worthy of recognition? Only Gibson and Mushtaq took more first class wickets than him this season.

Oh right, that's a bit gay.

Surely it should be a voted-for-team like the PFA divisional awards. And make it divisional while their at it.

Murray Goodwin above Hick, surely.

The trouble with a system like that is that automatically favours players from weaker teams; that's why there are more players from the bottom four counties than the top four in it. Doesn't seem like a fair way to decide things "You're not great, but you're better than the rest of the crap team you play for therefore we'll put you higher than people who stand out in a team of good players" Totally rubbish.

It should be divisional: you can't compare Caddick with Gibson and Mushy as the latter were bowling at much better players.
