..from the Argus comments....

"Steve Coppell is making a sensational return as Albion manager.

He has agreed a three-year contract and will be unveiled by the club at a press conference today, five years after leaving for Reading.

Coppell, 52, takes over from Micky Adams who has been offered the role of first-team coach.

Chairman Dick Knight said: "The board felt we need a manager with more experience to help the club make the great leap back into the Championship.

"It's vital that we get back there as quickly as possible, before we get to our new stadium at Falmer."

Knight broke the news to Adams last night.

"We very much want him to stay," the chairman said. "His strengths lie in coaching and the development of players.

"For obvious reasons Micky is in shock and we don't expect him to come up with an answer yet. He needs to think about it and we will do everything to persuade him to stay."

Knight stressed that all of Albion's 79 coaching staff would stay. Dean White remains assistant to the manager but is now is a superior position to Adams and Dean Wilkins, who becomes assistant to the first-team coach, and Ian Chapman, assistant to the assistant coach. Martin Hinshelwood is still something else and Barry Lloyd stays as chief scout."
