also bastard very common name for spaniels and labradors on the pheasant shooting scene , i remember when i was beating once the gamekeeper had been calling his lab a bastard all morning , like "come here bastard " ect , anyway an italian guy who was one of the guns ( paying guest , one of 8) went up to the keeper at lunch time and asked if it was ok to give "bastard " a piece of bread!!!
