I am looking to take the misses away at the end of september for a weekend. Can anyone recommend a website where i can book something cheapest? Not over bothered where we go, some where in Europe though.

St. Petersburg, great place

A lot of hassle for a weekend though what with Visa's and all.

I would recommend one of the following.
Tallinn,
Paris,
Prague,
Helsinki,
Copenhagen or
Rome but there are loads of places that are worth visiting.

There are thousands of websites you can look at from teletext holidays to lastminute.com. I normally just book a flight and then do an independent look for accommodation. Normally go for Apartments instead of Hotels and have never been disappointed.

Bruges. Beautiful city!

Take the car, get the ferry to Calais, drive to Bruges (about 90 mins), stash the car when you get there (our hotel had very reasonable underground parking) and do the rest on foot. Fill up with beer and wine on the way back and with the money you save on booze a good proportion of your weekend will be free! :drink: :drink:

Can I back up the recommendation for Tallinn?

Probably not everyone's cup of tea - but you can have the cultural/touristy side or the getting pissed/using prostitutes side. Best of both worlds.

On a train...
After going to Lübeck to go to Hamburg I can advise that it's the equivilent of flying into Gatwick when you actually want to go to Luton.

The bus ride takes a while, but Hamburg is quite a nice place and has the Reeperbahn. If you don't know what it is click here or here if you speak German.

Firenze is also a good place to go. Lots to see, eat and drink as its the home of Chianti. Also only a 90min train journey to the Tuscan coast.

Seville is fantastic for a few days (but probably way too hot this time of year)

Direct cheap flights now form Gatwick

I did a city break to Istanbul a few years ago
