FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Muttiah Muralitharan will be allowed to bowl his controversial 'doosra' delivery after the International Cricket Council relaxed their laws on throwing.
Muralitharan, currently out of the game with a shoulder injury, came under scrutiny once again earlier this year when ICC match referee chris Broad reported his suspect action.

But, in a ground-breaking move, a six-man ICC committee, convened in Dubai, has given the green light to all bowlers kinking their arms by 15 degrees.

Technological research showed that even those assumed to have pure actions like South Africa's Shaun Pollock and Australian Glenn McGrath 'chuck' to some extent.

Biomechanics showed that several all-time greats exceeded the previous restrictions of five degrees for spinners and 10 for fast bowlers, and subsequently a new universal tolerance level of 15 has been set.

So Chucking is allowed now....

What difference does it make? Surely it's more fun to watch if the ball is spinning all over the place. As they said, the 'greats' did it years ago, why not now?

The last test between India and Australia was and there were no chuckers there. There need to be better pitches in test matches, some poor standards out there.

I think it's great news: it might well mean more spinners and can only make cricket even more interesting.

will they keep a grip on fast bowlers though or allow them to one day bend their arms? then it becomes ridiculous!

Remember people: the laws say the bowling arm must be "straightened"... not "straight".

What the ICC has done is notice that Murali's natural doosra action leads to his muscles "kinking" his arm by 15 degrees. He couldn't physically straighten it any more. Therefore his arm is straightened.

Now if only the ICC could be that sensible about Zimbabwe. :(

Murali is not a chucker. He is, however, a genius.

Unfortunately, the Aussies could never quite deal with the fact that the best spinner in the world wasn't one of them - hence their constant whinging. Tossers (pardon the pun).

I am really pleased that Murali is allowed to bowl his doosra - it's a joy to watch.
