BATCHELOR MAKES DREAM TEAM A REALITY
Chester City FC is set to be under new ownership and with a new name
Negotiations are at an advanced stage for the sale of Chester City Football
Club. The club has seen a steadily falling attendance and reduction in
commercial income over the last season and current owner Stephen Vaughan put the club up for sale earlier this year and has now agreed to sell it.
Entrepreneur John Batchelor has made an extremely attractive offer for the club,
reportedly for a sum upwards of two million pounds.
Batchelor plans to change the name of the club to 'Harchester United', from the
popular Sky One soap 'Dream Team'.
"I am thrilled about this opportunity," he explains, "Dream Team was on our
screens for ten seasons, and there is still a massive online community of fans
who supported The Dragons. Now, they have the opportunity to follow their club
for real. Of course, one of my prime concerns is for the Chester City fans, and
to ensure that the changeover is made with the utmost sensitivity and respect.
"This change will benefit everyone, not just fans of the show, but the players
and fans of the club. Going forward, I really am excited about making this
football club a success in the future."
Chester City FC is currently lying in 19th place in League Two, last week
beating promotion-chasing third placed Darlington 2-1.
In season ten of Dream Team in 2006, Harchester United won the FA Cup.
