I was, I just wrote it in a hurry. I meant I would have expected a bigger attendance for their opening game. When they were in the old division one in the mid 70s when attendances were peaking. 12,031 doesn't seem to be very big for a largish city.
It's the other way 'round when clubs are on the fiddle. Happened all the time at The Goldstone. There'd be blatantly 10,000-plus inside and they'd announce the crowd as something like 8,500.
Loads of clubs are at it, I believe Chesterfield just got caught (shame).
I was in that crowd 35 years ago! They had a season in the old 1st division and after 3 games they were top of the league. I was working there and went to their first home games (Spurs I think - won 2-1). Didn't stop them getting relegated though.
