Bruce Talbot Thankyou Very Much.

A quote from Bruce Talbots' Off the record column in todays Arsegust. He is talking about our attendances and revenue that has been lost since We left the Goldstone.
"Would they have averaged 12,000 winning promotion from the second division last year?
Would they have reached that figure in their first season back in division one in 2002 when they lost 12 games in a row at one stage?
Even this season it is debatable whether the average crowd would be 12,000.The likes of West Ham and Leeds would have pulled in that many and probably a few more, but Plymouth or Cardiff on a tuesday night? Can't see it Myself. There haven't been to many sellouts this season in a stadium which holds less than 7,000."
Cheers Bruce, with friends like You who needs enemys?

Anther hack not doing his homework and trying to be controversial for the sake of it. When he's edited the letters page in Sports Argus in the past, reading some of his comments, I've sometimes wondered where he's coming from....

Everyone seems to forget that we must be the most casually-supported club in England. There are days, weeks, and months (someties even seasons) when lots of our fans can't be bothered. They haven't stopped supporting us, they've just got something better to do for a bit.

Combined with the difficulty of getting tickets, this is why Withdean doesn't sell out.

We used to get more than 8,000 for the likes of Plymouth and Cardiff when we played at the Goldstone.

Grrrr.

Any other local paper would be backing their local club .. not our beloved arsegas ..that would be to easy to do that !

on another point out of ignorance ,can anyone tell me if the council are putting any money into Falmer if and when we get it..was just looking at coventrys new stadium and see the local concil gave 21 mill .. granted it has different policies at stake , but its still a donation

Yeah, thanks Bruce. Did you give a photo-copied version after Lewes District Council or did you hand them the master copy?

Here's some interesting attendances:

Hull City's last full season at Boothferry Park = 6,684
Hull City's first full season at KC Stadium = 12,843
Hull City's current average attendance = 17,409

Who'd have thunk that Hull could get such crowds.

There havent been sell outs because people dont want to sit in such a crap stadium. Give them a beautiful new ground with a roof and they will be happy. We could have averaged at least 15k this season if we had a new stadium already.

They appear to have removed the long running banner on the foot of the back page supporting Falmer. I noticed it last week (not a regular buyer/reader these days-hard to get in Guildford).

It can be an astonishing piece of shit sometimes.....

That is so true as has been discussed many times on here. If we were dry, could get a drink and create a better atmosphere there would be extra thousands every game.

I think Perseus summed it up with his graph on another thread. Attendances across the country have gone up over the last few years and so would have ours irrelevant of promotion.

Albion for Falmer - A campaign by The Argus.

Like f***ing bollocks.

I remember speaking to Mike Gleeson, editor of the portsmouth News. He was falling over himself that Pompey were doing so well (they year they went up) and was desperate to get the paper involved with the club at all times. Shame the Argus don't use the same tact.

Fair enough, report the facts if they are there to be reported, but don't state opinion that flies in the face of your 'campaign'.

Twats.

Its not just that its also that alot of people want to be able to turn up on the day and with Withdean you just can't.

Getting a ticket is like planning a military operation, which people will do for Cardiff & big days out like Spurs but for bread and butter league footy they cannot be arsed.

To say we would only get an extra 1500 at Falmer (or wherever) on the 'hardcore' 6500 odd at Withdean is absolutely laughable.

I think that 12000 average is a very conservative estimate even for Plymouth etc at home. I reckon we would get nearer 15000.

For Mr Talbot's information - avaeraging 91.6% of capacity is probably as close to a sell out as you can get once you doscount the complimentaries, the safety seats and others that can't be sold but are included in capacity.
