LC,

my top recommendation would be Le Taj, 96 Brick Lane - http://www.letaj.co.uk/
an oasis in a sea of tourist traps.

Great food, and unlicenced (you'll need to get Cobras from the Offy over the road)

enjoy!

I've stopped going to Brick Lane, tried different curry houses and they're uniformly awful.

Waste of money going there.

Incidentally, the best curry I've had (outside of India or Thailand) gets delivered to your door by Spice Nutriment, Queens Road, Brighton. I would kill for one right now.

Having been to most all of them, I would second that shout for Le Taj. It's esquisitely fine banglabesh cuisine, don't you know. Plus it's also run by the brothers from Taj Stores just along the road. Nice lads, RUDE cars.
Other than that, I wouldn't waste a penny in any of the other lame curry houses. They're all rubbish. You want top curry in London, you need to head to Tooting, and all the authentic veggie places like Kastoori. You know it makes sense.

The Lahore Kebab House, 2 Umberston Street E1 is by far the best curry house in that area. Brick Lane is very poor these days.

Good choice.

Of course there is also Green Street etc

We also have a few near our house.

But Brick Lane is a mid-point betwen home and work.

So a toss up so farbetween Lahoore and Le Taj:clap:

Sorry LC..being born in India I find so many curry houses fail to deliver. Le Taj, if receommended, does look a fair prospect.

Someone talking sense here. The Kastoori is top drawer but the Jaffna House in Tooting will blow your balls off and you'll still have change for a tenner after eating your fill.

I went to Le Taj the other day. I found it pretty good & I'm not a great fan of Indian.

Brick Lane has gone down hill a bit, but there are some excellent bangladeshi cafes, canteens down some of the back streets as you head south east. Mainly meat though...so you might struggle LC. Cannot name them either, was taken there late at night.

I always used to have a mad time in the Vibe as well.

Did the Seven Stars pub in Brick Lane ever re-open following the mystery fire? Used to spend many a happy hour playing pool in the back room of a lunchtime.
