Booing your team

Do you agree on booing your team after a poor or run of poor performances?

I can see both sides, people are paying good money to see there team and by booing it's voicing there distress but on the flip side it's not good for the team as we need to get behind them.

Haven't heard Brighton boo team after game yet but heard Chelsea fan a on MOTD this morning.

Fans should stick with their team and offer support. If the players are clearly giving 100% (which in most instances they are) then there is no reason to do it.

Never and never will or it will be time to pack up and head home. That isn't to say I wouldn't be critical but booing just isn't right

Would you boo the team if it had the effect of increasing their resolve to put on an improved second half performance?

never booed The Albion been going 32 years, only boo shambolic match officials!

This is correct. I will happily abuse opposition players, fans, management, and officials.

I have never and will never boo a Brighton player no matter how awful they are.

Those who do, do so if they please but I won't be joining them.

Although never done it myself it does work sometimes. I always remember against Millwall in relegation fight 2005, about this time of year. We were 1 nil up at half time, although really should of been 5 or 6 up. As the Millwall players left the pitch the booing and jeering they got from their fans was beyond belief. Second half there was only ever one team in it, and it wasn't us and we ended up losing.

Didn't boo yesterday, pretty sure i never had, but i certainly refused to clap at the full time whistle. Refuse to spend any more money on that until something changes, one of the worst performances given the money we've spent for a long long time. We could have played on until midnight and not come close to scoring, because in truth we didn't. Coventry had numerous chances, numerous shots on goal from decent positions, in 90 minutes the only half decent chance we created was a CMS 1 on 1, which any decent keeper would have closed down because of the angle he was at when running onto the ball.
It was very, very poor. The back four are asking for bookings, hands on shirts every time the ball comes up to them, wrestling players to the floor, and again El abd and Greer pusing it close to getting sent off when marking Jutkiveitz (SP?). The way we played yesterday won't IMO work against anyone, and until its proved wrong away from home I don't feel like wasting any more money on it. Those there yesterday would know just how frustrating it was, passing side to side at the back, numerous times putting ourselves in danger and even a few times passing it to opposition players around are own box due to mistakes. Ankergren should have claimed the cross for the second goal. Harley's 'set peice specialist' role is a load of tosh, not one set piece cleared the first man or the wall, one free kick hitting the wall so gently it led to the breakaway for the first goal. Until 75 minutes in, every time we got in a decent crossing position we checked back and passed to our full backs. Coventry were far more direct and it worked, they created chances.

As Ray Wilkins said, possesion football is fine, as long as it's with a purpose. We're playing with no purpose whatsoever, and teams in this league are being given enough time to organise themselves whenever we get the ball. Oh, and don't even get me started on a midfield of Harley, Navarro and Sparrow, no creativity, not direct, no pace, and no fight in any of them yesterday.

I can't see the benefit of launching an acerbic hiss at the players that, for all their faults, i generally adore. An occasional huff mixed with a few oh bloody hells will suffice in a game that's just not going our way or to a player i try to quietly disapprove of. The style in which we wish to play and the members of the team we currently have fully fit need confidence to carry out Gus' instructions, and i'd rather we keep funding that confidence than picking at it because we don't quite get exactly what we want.

Also just want to make clear would not like us to of been, or ever be like Millwall supporters. Apart from the hatred of Palace which we win anyway

This sentence doesn't make sense! Palace are doing very well at the moment, we will have to be careful of them.

Sorry, I can see why that is unclear. How I meant it to come across was. If you had a competion of Millwalls rilvalry of Palace, and ours, then our rivalry would win hands down. On a purely football side of things, yes as much as I hate to say it can see us losing 6 points to them this season. Although we got a month of tranfer activity, suspenions served and injuries cleared. So could be a completely different kettle of fish

Yeah, but apart from all that, it's full steam ahead for The Good Ship 'Albion' then?! :lolol:

ps Your report/thoughts really does make for very grim reading, although it was somewhat off-set by seeing your signature at the end of the post. I can see you changing that rather sharpish tbh.

It really was awful, bottom of the league, no confidence, and we turned up there pussy footing around as if we had the right to win from the off. They're battling for their lives, and were fighting for everything, and it was unquestionable that they'd win a midfield battle against a three of Sparrow, Harley, and Navarro. CMS looked frustrated for the entire match, and who can blame him, no service again.
I trust Gus to change it around, but it's starting to seem like he's too stubborn to change any of his playing mentalities in the slightest, even when they CLEARLY aren't working. I was far happier to spend money going to watch performances when we were struggling a couple of years back but playing like we wanted to win, and creating chances, than I am paying to watch such boring, dull football.

Sorry that's so negative, but yesterday really was awful, and we're being dragged into a relegation scrap. We weren't close to getting a result yesterday.

No, because you cannot possibly know whether your booing will have any affect on their resolve; they may play better, the same or worse.

What it would do though is to send out a message to everyone that we are not behind our team, in fact we're actively against it. The players on both sides and the spectators won't know whether you're booing because you want the chairman out, the manager out or you think the team aren't trying or aren't capable enough.

I think booing is psychologically damaging to the team's spirit. A lot of us are frustrated about the performances of late, surely not applauding the team sends a better message - we're here in numbers but we're not happy!

I'm glad I didn't waste my time, money & voice yesterday - but I certainly feel for those who did. It's plainly not good enough: & with the injuries & suspensions we've got it doesn't look like it's gonna change any time soon either. You've illustrated the problems that I've witnessed myself for a few months now, & I honestly don't know how GP is gonna turn this around without Tone giving him a large wedge for replacements this month. That said, I can't see Poyet bringing in the world-class players that he appears to require to make his system successful, so I guess we can only hope that he takes a more pragmatic approach & formulates a more effective way of getting the best out of the players he has. I can't say I'll be holding my breath though... :(

ps Maybe we could turn them all off & back on again before KO tomorrow?

Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
Please never boo.
Supporting your football team isn't like paying to be entertained in the usual sense.
I think of it as going to watch your kid in a school play.
If they forget the words, or trip over, do you boo? Of course you don't.
The Albion are our family, and we support them, whether they're on song or not.
Put yourself in a player's position.
You work your nuts off, and it doesn't go well. Anybody who has ever kicked a ball knows that sometimes, brain, body and ball don't gel.
We've all missed open goals. We've all mistimed tackles.
Does people shouting at you make you play any better? NO.
This is when players really need encouraging. You do this by giving them your SUPPORT.
Encourage, or say nothing.
Yes, I do boo.
I boo the oposition's names when they're read out before a match.
I boo players that have done us an injustice in the past.
I boo refs who do us wrong.
I boo linos who get it wrong.
I would never, never boo my own team.
Anyone who boos the Albion should sit in the away end.
Happy New Year!
