Well Gus obviously saw something in him, otherwise he wouldn't have taken him on loan.

Gus has loved him since he first took over here, Paynter had his brilliant season (singular) for Swindon and then left them on a free. But what Paynter does doesn't really translate to the Championship. In a sense, it's the same situation as CMS, but in a different way. In league 1, defenders get scared by CMS and I'm sure he must have scored a fair few of his goals by pinching the ball off them and scoring. In the Championship, the defenders have much more technical ability and composure so aren't too bothered by him. Paynter did a lot of his best work for Swindon by smashing defenders all over the place, and setting up Austin to score. In the Championship though, defenders aren't bothered by his bulk because they are much cleverer.
