The same could be said of all the Sussex based non league teams that we play in friendlies but at least it gives the players match practice to get fit and harbours good relations with the other clubs. Doesnt cost us a lot in travel expenses and earnms the other clubs money.

indeed, hundreds of Albion fans signed the on-line petition so I think as many as possible should try and make the effort to go and give one of our own local teams a financial leg up for next season...(just my opinion, nothing else)

if we wanted to help other clubs we would have put more effort last season into loaning out fringe players that don't get much first team experience(Elder,Butters, Sullivan etc.). As for match practice and boosting fitness levels, well it's not useful practice for reserve team players, new signings and trialists that need to be playing against football league teams to realistically asses them and boost their fitness. their not going to learn anything it ill be and easy win even if they play to a tenth of their ability. what a waste time playing BH:banana::mexican::banana::albion2::ascarf:

We are playing league teams though, its not as if we are only playing non league teams in pre-season. None of Elder/Butters/Sullivan are ever going to be loned to that sort of level(and all of them were involved in the first team in one way or another - (be it bench or needed if someone got injured)

If you've got a problem with it dont go, but most people with intelligence can see the point of playing them.

And why would we loan out our second choice keeper? No disrespect to BH but i'm sure Sullivan would at least get some first team action in the BlueSQ Premier if not BlueSQ North/South.

Charlton? ???

I was thinking more Arsenal/Celtic

They chase a fortune playing around the globe like Portsmouth playing Man Utd in Nigeria.

As regards sofg

That is so wrong that it is unbelievable that somebody would think that way. A match against any opposition irrespective of the strength is better than training. It is the easiest thing in the world to practice moves and passing but it is a different kettle of fish when you have opponents rather than 'traffic cones' defending.

I can see his point, I mean we never get to play any big boys in the Summer.

Unfortunatley the big boys are now all too busy playing each other in swanky money making pre-season tournaments to bother with the likes of lower league clubs.

I'm glad that Brighton play some of the Sussex teams in pre-season as unlike the big boys it means that we are supporting lower league football. A good turn out could pay their rent for the year.

I think you'll find Crawley's pre-season schedule includes games against Spurs and Arsenal.

Pre-season opposition means very little.

I recall not so long ago our pre-season tour of Ireland was called off less than halfway through after The Battle Of Longford Town. It didn't hinder us getting promoted that season one little bit.
