The early Dr Who's were BRILLIANT. Twatty does have a point in that most S.F. is just soap opera in space. For me the worst are all the Star Trek spin-offs. Next Generation was quite enjoyable, but DS9 and Voyager were total crap. Despite the fact that loads of the characters were supposed to be aliens from the four corners of the universe they all seemed to speak with the same 'voice'.

It would be very depressing to actually encounter alien life and fund they all acted and sounded like graduates of American business schools.
