Are any folk on NSC one of these? Is anybody training to become one?

I have come to a stage in my life that i feel it may be time to head back to the UK. But, i have no qualifications and have no real hope for a job when I do go back. So i thought driving instructor.

I would like to add that it will be a tempeary job for around 5-6 years whilst I finnish my degree.

So, any of you great people have any advice?

I want to :flounce: from Greece.

I looked at red, they did seem ok. I have look at some others and they all seem to be around that price.

I gather there are 3 exams and you have to pass them in 2 years.

Does anyone have any other job sugestions that will earn around that amount?

This is what I was thinking. Its not that i'm scared to work hard, just not for that long plus I need time to fit in my degree.

I'm doing the course at the moment, progressing on Part 3. First part is the theory, same as the normal except you have twice as many questions to answer 100 in 90 minutes followed by the hazard perception. If you pass, you then have two years in which to complete parts 2 and 3. Part 2 is a driving test. Same as the normal one except it lasts for one hour and, whereas on the normal one you can make 15 minor errors, on the driving instructor one you can only make 6. Last part is where they test your teaching ability. There are 10 set lessons you have to be able to teach. In your part 3 test you do one half hour being tested on how you would teach a novice driver (the examiner role plays a novice) one of the 10 lessons and in the second half the examiner acts as more experienced learner driver approaching test level.

Would suggest you shop around as RED and LDC are expensive ways of learning. I paid less than £2k for my course with a small local instructor school. They will also sting you when you become one of their franchises. LDC were looking to take half of whatever I earned so I kicked them into touch. As for working 7days a week for 12 hours a day, I doubt you will find any instructor works those hours.

Get on the DSA website and get a list of 'ORDIT' approved instructors in the area you are going to live. They give good advice about chosing one. Also, you will probably have to do about 40 hours or more to get through part 3.

Good luck and stay out of my patch!!

No, it doesn't include the fees for the tests nor for the registration as an ADI (you have to register in order to be able to book the tests. They do courses around present committments or intensive.

SDITC is not much cheaper but you do get one to one training, which some of the bigger schools don't do. Also, I was lucky enough to sign up before their fees went up so it was a little cheaper for me.

I note the BSM say lessons are 2/3 hours long. This would suggest that there is more than just you and the instructor as 3 hours would be too long for just one person so you would each take turns.

I think learning to crash would be a bit quicker than that !

But seriously - what sort of money do DIs earn then - obviously it's linked to no. of lessons and hours, but what is the reality of earning potential ?
